“This is heartbreaking. This worst pain I’ve ever felt. Russell was apart of our lives. We loved him like our own,” Delores Charley, Russell’s Mother-in-Law said.
“He was one of my best-friends, he was family, one of the best people I’ve ever known. Anybody that ever met him would like him. He would do anything for anyone and never hesitate,” Family Friend, Richard Church said.
This is just some of the emotions the Iaeger community are feeling as they remember a hero, fallen firefighter, Russ Roberson.
Roberson died trying to help someone who ran back into a burning building early Sunday morning. Roberson died after responding to the fire. Roberson spent the last 15 years as a volunteer firefighter, leaving this world doing something he loved, helping others.
First responders turned out strong to show of support for the fallen firefighter’s family and friends, as Roberson’s body was returned from Charleston. This procession is meant to honor a life lost in service to others. It’s a loss that will leave a void for those closest to him.
There are two services planned for Roberson. Visitation will be held on this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Iaeger Elementary School and another visitation will follow this Friday at 12:00 p.m. at Iaeger Elementary School.
